The end of any chapter comes with a mix of emotions. There is always an excitement about completing a goal, but a sadness couples that as you say goodbye to things you know and love.
Each trimester we experience this mix of emotions. We watch as our student clinicians complete a term of learning/treating, but we are immensely proud of all the work they have accomplished. The lessons and techniques they learn in their time at the clinic are irreplaceable, and they truly learn a level of independence that is unique to this setting. We are overjoyed for them as they move on to finish their education and continue to contribute to the field as a whole, yet we are sad to see them leave us as well.
Additionally, we experience these emotions with our children. This term we assessed many children, but we said goodbye to several as well. Some are leaving us to continue services in the school system and others have successfully graduated out of our program! While we are thankful for the availability of further services and elated for the graduations, we are sad to say goodbye. The impact the CLC has had is truly amazing and will never be forgotten by the children and their families.
Finally, I personally am saying goodbye to the CLC. After 5 years of clinical supervision, I have come to the end of this chapter. I will be taking on a new role with the university, and while that is exciting, I will greatly miss the supervision experience, the families but most of all the children.
The continued support of this clinic is truly changing the lives of so many supervisors, students and families but most of all children.
